Converto-Gear History - The Crane Co. first introduced the Converto-Gear manual bevel gear in the early 1960's. Somewhere shortly after 1965 the Crane Teledyne Electric actuator commenced production. The electric version was, and is, simply the addition of a set of controls, limit and torque switches, in conjunction with a motor and built around the original Converto-Gear. The Crane Teledyne product line was purchased from the Crane Co. in the early 1980's by Portersville Valve Co. At that point in time it became known as Portersville Teledyne and was produced under that mark until 1996. In 1996 Portersville Valve Co. purchased the Converto-Gear product line from Crane Co. and began production of the Portersville Converto-Gear. To simplify matters both product lines were incorporated under the same Portersville Converto-Gear trade name. While the name has changed the model identifications remain the same.
